Home Moxa Use

Have available a small bowl of water, a lit candle, tweezers or hemostats. A location with good ventilation is ideal. Burns and ash are a reality of things that are on fire - use care in choosing your surroundings.

1. remove the adhesive backing from the cardboard end of the moxa

2. using the tweezers or hemostats to hold the moxa stick, light the other end in the candle flame, holding there until it glows (you may need to blow on it a little)

3. place the adhesive end on the desired location

4. when it becomes noticeably hot or burns down to the cardboard remove it using the tweezers or hemostats and douse in the bowl of water

5. repeat 2-3 times on the same location

Cooking Raw Herbs

Raw herb formulas will require a stove top, water, a pot, a strainer, and a storage container.

1. Ideally, you will soak the herbs for a few hours in the pot with enough water to ensure nothing is exposed during cooking; this is usually around 3 cups of water but can vary.

2. If you are unable to soak, still add the herbs to a pot with enough water to ensure nothing is exposed during cooking; this is usually around 3 cups of water but can vary.

3. Heat the mixture to a boil and then turn down to a simmer for 25-30 minutes.

4. Strain and save the liquid into a container that can be stored in the refrigerator. Use care as the liquid will be very hot.

5. Return herbs to the pot and repeat steps 2-4, combining both sets of liquid.

6. Dispose of herbs and consume liquid portion as instructed.
